Fabric guide: leather, wool & co

IKKS selects the fabrics to dress our #dailyheroes with great care. Leather, denim or wool add comfort and elegance to every style.

Denim: mainly used for jeans, denim (a contraction of "de Nîmes", the city where jeans were invented) is also used on jackets and shirts. This extremely solid material is made from twill weave cotton, dyed indigo, from which the characteristic blue colour of basic denim comes.

Leather: often from cow or pig skin, lambskin or crocodile leather is also used. This strong, waterproof fabric is often used for large items (jackets, coats, trousers).

Albini: an Italian fabric of very high quality, mainly used for fine cloth items such as shirts. The cotton is both breathable and resistant, giving a unique feeling of comfort, softness and freshness on the skin.

Suede leather: less solid than classicleather as it comes from the finer, inner side of the skin. Its velvety appearance is perfect for making gloves, handbags and shoes.

Nubuck: nubuck is also a leather. It is made from a full-grain leather that has been rubbed with sandpaper to give it a velvety appearance. Nubuck is mainly used for shoes and bags.

Wool: this material, which comes from shearing sheep, has long been used for its solidity, suppleness and softness. Wool is comfortable, heat insulating and does not go out of shape. It is very popular for making coats. Choose your thickness according to your body shape.

Merino wool: This wool is finer than traditional wool and is appreciated for its softness. Merino wool is used for its lightness, insulating and breathable qualities, in particular for making underwear, sweaters, coats, fine sweaters, trousers, etc.
